Helping Men Feel Like Men Again

Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Andropause is a hormonal deficit syndrome typically effecting men in their 40s and 50s. Because of the age of occurrence, it is sometimes referred to "male menopause." Approximately 25% of men experience symptoms related to suboptimal testosterone levels. Beginning in our mid-30s, natural testosterone production decreases about 1.6% per year. In addition, the proteins which irreversibly bind testosterone in the bloodstream increase. Either, or both, of these processes may result in low levels of bioavailable testosterone.

This is a natural process, but extremely low testosterone levels may cause symptoms such as loss of libido with or without erectile dysfunction, fatigue, weakness and/or loss of muscle mass, increase in abdominal fat, sleep disturbance, loss of mental clarity, mood changes, joint aches, and a myriad of other issues.

Traditional medicine treats low testosterone based on an extremely wide and arbitrary "normal" range. This range is not individualized or correlated to the age of the patient in any way.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) is the principal treatment to combat the effects of andropause and restore your testosterone to adequate levels. TRT may be accomplished via injectable testosterone or with transdermal gels/creams. Here at The Male Room, we primarily use injectables because of increased absorption, increased effectiveness, and reduced chance of inadvertent transfer to others. Dosage and desired testosterone level is individualized based on a number of factors. We focus on improving your symptoms rather than targeting a random number without considering symptomatic improvement.

How it works...

The initial evaluation is performed by our male Physician Assistant. Your medical history is reviewed, and your personal men's health concerns are discussed. A focused physical exam is performed focusing on your general health. If testosterone replacement therapy is determined to be reasonable treatment option, initial lab work is drawn. We will check levels of testosterone, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), Estrogen, Sex Hormone Binding Globulin, as well as, Complete Blood Count (CBC - which includes cell counts and percentages) and Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP - electrolytes). Other labs may be ordered in accordance with your medical history.

We will review your lab work approximately one week later and determine whether testosterone replacement is appropriate for you and determine a treatment protocol.

If you agree with our treatment plan and wish to proceed, you will be enrolled in our program. We wish to provide a close knit community of men to discuss and improve our collective men's health.
